The Severs Disease
July 29th, 2010 by admin
Pain throughout the heel in children is actually not frequent, but any time this does happen it is usually a condition named Severs Disease. There are some other causes of heel pain, but they are rare. The pain of this is actually normally at the back involving the heel and it is usually painful when the heel is squeezed. That is more common in children between the ages of 10-15 years of age who are active, especially on hard sports fields. Severs disease is a strain of the very thin cartilage growth plate at the back of the heel which permits for growth to occur. This growth plate fuses with the heel at around or before age 15, so it is self limiting.
