Medial tibial stress syndrome
March 30th, 2010 by admin
Medial tibial stress syndrome is a problem that is painful along the medial edge of the tibia in those runners who tend to do too much running too soon or build up their distances too quickly. It is more commonly known in the non-medical circles as shin splints. As well as training errors, it can also be due to poor foot biomechanics or inadequate footwear. Treatment is aimed at correcting the training errors and the use of foot orthotics to improve the foot biomechanics. Most runners can keep running through this with only small reductions in the distances that they run.
